Meet Your Instructor
Hilary was born and raised in Ocala, FL, where she grew up as a member of the United States Pony Clubs, an avid Three Day Eventer, and later joined the FSU Dressage Team in college. While living in Western NC, she had the opportunity to work as a Lessons Instructor for the Biltmore Estate's large-scale private boarding facility located in Asheville, NC. In 2021, she started her own lesson program at her farm in Williston, FL, focusing on foundational horsemanship and its application across all disciplines of riding. In 2024 the Lakey family moved back to Mountain Rest, SC where they began the process of transforming a peaceful 10 acre forest tract into a mountain horse farm. As of November 2025 we are excited to open the farm up to riding lessons! Hilary enjoys teaching horseback riding to students of all ages and riding abilities, including offering beginner riding lessons, while also helping riders develop problem-solving tools with their horses. Additionally, she is passionate about colt starting, trail clearing on local horse trails and assisting her community. Lessons and Boarding
We have an outdoor riding ring at our farm but if you have the appropriate riding space at your own facility, Hilary can travel to you within 30 minutes. She specializes in beginner riding lessons for children and adults to establish a solid foundation in horsemanship and riding skills. For lessons at our farm you can use one of our lovely schooling horses or bring your own! After participating in our riding program we are happy to offer extended lesson times for a Trail Riding Lesson. Intermediate riders and their horses are welcome as well. Additionally, we offer training board for horses needing colt starting or those in need of touch-ups on the foundational basics.
